Academics

Learning1 Academic programming at St. John Brebeuf School aims to empower students to take an active role in shaping their futures and becoming engaged citizens. Learning requires not only a strong basis in curricular content, but also an emphasis on global competencies: critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, citizenship, communication, and connection to self. Our highly trained and experienced educators utilize hands-on activities and experiences that foster a love of learning. Students are challenged to strive for academic excellence and receive age-appropriate amounts of homework not only to reinforce curricular content but also to teach time management, and responsibility.

Our program of regular diagnostic assessment in numeracy and literacy ensures students’ programming is matched with their individual needs.

The curricular program at St. John Brebeuf School prepares students for the next step in their academic career, no matter where they choose to further their education beyond their elementary and junior high years.

Debating

Students in Grades 7 and 8 are encouraged to join our Debating and Public Speaking Program.  This program offers a valuable opportunity for students to develop their critical thinking and research abilities, along with improving their public speaking skills.  These transferable skills build students' overall academic capacity.  St. John Brebeuf has a novice and competitive debating team. Our students have successfully competed at the provincial and national levels.
